無水硫酸アルミニウムは、免疫アジュバント活性を持つアルミニウム塩です。この薬剤は溶液中のタンパク質抗原を吸着して沈殿させます。得られた沈殿物は、接種部位に形成されたワクチンデポーからの抗原の徐放を促進することにより、ワクチンの免疫原性を向上させます。硫酸アルミニウムが下水に投入されると、酸性凝集剤と水の天然アルカリ性である重炭酸カルシウムとの反応によって水酸化アルミニウムの凝集が形成されます。
応用
水処理 : 飲料水の浄化や廃水処理に使用されます。
