現在、コークス化廃水の処理方法としては生化学的処理が一般的である。しかし、生化学的廃液中の COD、色度、揮発性フェノール、多環芳香族炭化水素、シアン化物、石油、全シアン化物、全窒素、アンモニア態窒素などは、分解が困難な有機化合物が多数存在するため、通常は国の排出基準を満たすことができません。したがって、生化学的手法の後の深部処理では、分解が難しい官能基の除去を解決することに重点を置く必要があります。 通常の凝集剤では所望の除去効果が得られない場合が多いですが、コークス化排水専用のシアン除去脱色剤と活性炭を併用することで所望の効果が得られます。
